Mitsui is considering the establishment of a plant in Japan to produce recycled polypropylene resin (recycled PP resin) utilizing the technology of PureCycle Technologies, Inc. of the United States (PCT).
PCT has a technology license to produce recycled PP resin of the same quality as virgin material from waste plastic, and is constructing a 50,000-ton production plant in Ohio, U.S.A., with a target start-up date of 2023.
Through the advancement of plastic recycling in Japan, MCC aims to expand the use of recycled plastic to packaging for consumer goods and automobile interiors, where it is currently difficult to use recycled materials, thereby increasing the use of recycled plastic and promoting the establishment of a circular economy.
